| Directions to Castle Ward Our main Summer Season is held in the National Trust property, Castle Ward, on the shores of Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland. The nearest town is Downpatrick, about 10 minutes drive. Belfast is a 45-minute drive. Google Map Link Travelling from Belfast to Castle Ward, Strangford. Follow signs to Newcastle along the A24 and travel along the Ormeau Bridge. When you get to the junction with the Ravenhill Road, take the second exit at the roundabout. Travel along the A27 for another 4 miles then you are at the edge of Carryduff. Take the sign for Downpatrick A7. You will pass through Saintfield, pass the Rowallane Gardens on your right and finally pass through Crossgar. At the next junction with the A22, at the roundabout take the first exit A22, signposted Comber. At the next junction with the A25, turn right, signposted Strangford. In 1.2 miles, bear right and in another 3.8 miles, bear right. The road to Castle Ward is on the left. Travelling from Bangor/Newtownards/Comber to Castle Ward, Strangford Travelling up the Newtownards Road, follow signs for Newtownards. At the Newtownards Road roundabout, take the second exit signposted Newtownards A21. At the Rathgael Road roundabout take the second exit signposted Newtownards A21. Continue along the main road going through Conlig and enter Newtownards. At the first roundabout, take the second exit and at the second roundabout, take the first exit. Continue straight along the road and at the T-junction, turn right signposted Comber. Stay in the left hand lane and continue straight along the road until a set of traffic lights. Turn left onto South Street, also signposted Comber, and travel straight along the road. At the first roundabout, go straight on and at the second roundabout take the first exit signposted Downpatrick/Killyleagh A22. Continue forward along the A22, through Lisbane, through Killyleagh and finally enter Downpatrick. Turn left onto the Strangford Road (A25) signposted Strangford. Continue forward onto the Castleward Road, A25. The road to Castle Ward is on the left. Travelling from Larne to Castle Ward, Strangford At the Circular Road roundabout take the first exit then at the t-junction turn right onto Belfast Road-A8 signposted Belfast. At the Millbrook roundabout take the second exit onto the Belfast Road. At Coleman’s corner roundabout take the second exit onto the Larne Road – A8 signposted Belfast M2. Continue forward onto the Larne Road entering Newtownabbey. At the Corrs Corner roundabout take the third exit onto the A8 signposted Belfast. At the Sandyknowes roundabout take the third exit then join the M2 motorway, signposted Belfast M2. Leave the M2 at Junction 1B signposted the Docks and City Centre then merge onto Duncrue Street – A2, entering Belfast. Keep in the left hand lane and turn left onto Corporation Square, signposted Seacat, IOM Ferry. Keep in the right hand lane and at the traffic lights branch right onto the A2 signposted City Centre. At the traffic lights continue forward onto Oxford Street signposted City Centre, Central Station. Bear left onto Cromac Street – A24. Cross the Ormeau Bridge. When you get to the junction with the Ravenhill Road, take the second exit at the roundabout. Travel along the A27 for another 4 miles then you are at the edge of Carryduff. Travelling from Newry to Castle Ward, Strangford Start out in Newry, turn left onto Merchants Quay (A2) then turn left onto the A1. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Sandy’s Street signposted Rathfriland, Hilltown. At the next roundabout take the first exit onto the A25 signposted Rathfriland. Bear left onto Iveagh Bungalows, enter Rathfriland and turn right onto Newry Street. At crossroads, continue forward then turn right onto Downpatrick Street signposted Castlewellan. Continue forward onto Dublin Road entering Castlewellan. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Dublin Road, signposted Belfast, Downpatrick. Turn left onto Main Street, signposted Ballynahinch and at the next roundabout, take the second exit onto Ballydugan Road signposted for Downpatrick. Continue along the Ballydugan Road, enter Downpatrick and take the second exit at the next roundabout signposted Comber. Turn right onto the Strangford Road signposted for Strangford and continue forward. The road to Castle Ward is on the left approximately 8 miles along the Strangford Road. ![]() |
